7 years have past since the end of the Dragonball series. Goku and Chi Chi are now living in a cottage in the countryside with their son, Gohan. All was peaceful until Goku's brother, Raditz, comes to Earth to see why Goku hasn't done his job. Since Goku had hit his head on a rock when he was a child, he didn't remember anything about his mission. Raditz tells Goku that he's part of the Saiya-jin race and is suppose to clear the planet off so it could be sold to the highest bidder. Raditz offers Goku the chance to join him and conquer the universe for Frieza, but Goku refused. This made Raditz very angry and so he kidnaps Gohan.
Goku had no choice but to team up with his enemy, Piccolo to get Gohan back. The two of them were still no match for Raditz. Piccolo tells Goku that he had come up with a new technique that would be powerful enough to kill Raditz. Piccolo misses the first time. Gohan, enraged, attacked Raditz and manages to cause Raditz some real injuries. Goku takes advantage of the situation and grabs Raditz. Piccolo fires his Special Beam Cannon again and it goes right through Raditz and also killing Goku. Before Raditz died, he contacted Vegeta and Nappa about the Dragonballs and they could wish for immortality. It twill take Vegeta and Nappa one year to finally reach Earth.
Meanwhile, Goku is on the Snake Way trying to reach King Kai's planet, that is on the other end of the Snake Way, which is 10,000 miles! Goku gets a ride with a passing demon, but a bump causes him to fall off into heck. He wakes up to see two demons looking over him telling him that he has fallen off the Snake Way. They tell him that he had to beat them in a contest before they would let show him how to get back on the Snake Way. Goku easily beats them and he is shown the exit, which is a door! Goku has to start the Snake Way all over again.
Meanwhile, back on Earth, Piccolo trains Gohan in the wilderness. Yamcha, Tien, Chaozu, and Yajirobe also train for the arriving saiya-jins. They get their power levels past 1,000. Gohan improves greatly. Goku learns some new techniques from King Kai, while training at 10x the gravity. He finishes the two assigned tasks in the beginning.
A year has passed and the saiya-jins arrive. Thay land in a heavily populated city and destroy it. They come accross the Z Fighters and send 6 of their Saibamen, who's powers are equal to Raditz's. They agree to fight the Saibamen one-on-one. Tien goes first and beats the Saibaman easily. Yamcha is next and he was winning until the Saibaman grabbed him and self destructed, killing both. Vegeta, not ammused, ordered all the Saibamen to attack at once. They proved to be no match for the Z Fighters. Nappa decides to fight. Tien and Chaozu sacrifice their lives to try to kill Nappa, but fail. Krillin reasons with Vegeta to wait for Goku to arrive so they will have a chance and he agrees. They wait 3 hours, no Goku. They must resume the battle and Nappa goes straight for Gohan with a powerful blast. Piccolo, who learned to love Gohan, jumped in the blasts' path and dies. This causes Kami to vanish.
When Goku came back, Vegeta instructs Nappa to kill everyone before Goku gets to their location. Goku finally reaches Nappa and Vegeta, and they duel. Nappa, unable to hit Goku, got Vegeta very angry and he decided to take out Nappa for his incompetence. Goku and Vegeta battle it out, Goku with the upperhand. Vegeta used one of his energy bombs to create a fake moon and turns into an Oozaru. Goku is being beaten up by Vegeta. Using the Taiyoken, Goku was able to distract Vegeta enough for a Spirit Bomb he had learned from King Kai. Goku did not have time to launch the Spirit Bomb and most of it was lost when Vegeta started attacking Goku once again. Yajirobe sneaks up behind Vegeta and cuts off his tail, returning Vegeta back to his old self. Vegeta starts to fight Gohan. Goku gives Krillin what energy was left from his Spirit Bomb and tells him to fire it at Vegeta. He misses, but Gohan bounces off it and it hits Vegeta's butt. What was left of the Z Fighters start celebrating Vegeta's death, when they notice he's not dead. Vegeta begins fighting Gohan again when Yajirobe slashes his back. Vegeta starts beating up our poor Yajirobe. Gohan looks at the fake full moon and turns into an Oozaru. Vegeta uses his Destructo Disc to cut off Gohan's tail. Vegeta is crushed by the falling Gohan and a few moments later, Gohan returns to his normal self. Vegeta then tries to crawl to his space pod, but Krillin stops him. Goku tells Krillin to let Vegeta go, and he did. Vegeta vows to return and leaves to go back to Frieza and heal in the synthetic saiya-jin DNA.
